In June 2014, the City of Bartlesville entrusted SMC to restore the historic Bruce Goff designed Play Tower located at Sooner Park.
SMC was selected for this work after an exhaustive search by the City to find a dependable resource that can undertake a project of this significance and historic value to the citizens of Bartlesville.
Among the similar past projects performed for our city by SMC includes a full restoration of the historic Nellie Johnstone No. 1 oil drilling rig, including a gusher feature and moving components; relocation of the AT&SF Locomotive 940 to its current home near the Bartlesville Visitor's Center; and completing the display of a Vietnam War era A-4 Skyhawk attack bomber at Washington Park Mall.
The restoration journey of the Play Tower, as cataloged by SMC, are displayed on this page.
AFTER A COMPLETE RESTORATION THE PLAY TOWER MADE IT'S JOURNEY BACK FROM SMC TO SOONER PARK ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2014.
SMC's President, Kumar Krishnan and Plant Manager, Jerry Ruddick along with City Parks & Recreation Director, Lisa Beeman were invited to Bartlesville Radio by City Manager, Ed Gordon. The show can be heard on this link.
